New Zealand Dollar Rallies Amid Softening US Fed Hike Bets
The New Zealand Dollar (NZD) continues its rally against the US Dollar (USD), trading near a three-month high at around 0.5979. This price action is a result of fading bets on a Federal Reserve hike, which has softened the US Dollar and Treasury yields.
The recent soft US data has trimmed expectations for a Fed rate increase, leading to a decline in the value of the USD. In contrast, the New Zealand Retail Sales report due out on Sunday will be closely watched as it may provide further direction for the NZD/USD pair.
The services sector in New Zealand was shown to have accelerated in Friday's flash S&P Global PMIs, with a strong reading that beat expectations. However, this did not lead to an increase in the value of the US Dollar, suggesting that the NZD's advance is driven by its own momentum rather than a change in Fed policy.
The 0.6000 area serves as an immediate barrier for the pair, with the 2026 high above it. If the price fails to hold at the 0.5900 region, it could indicate a stall in the current push upwards.
