New Zealand Dollar Rises as China's Manufacturing PMI Improves in August
The New Zealand Dollar (NZD) strengthened against major currencies on Monday after China's Manufacturing PMI improved in August. The official reading rose to 49.7, up from July's 49.3, signaling a slowing decline in factory activity.
This modest improvement in China's manufacturing sector is significant for New Zealand, as the country relies heavily on exports to its largest trading partner. A higher PMI suggests improved economic conditions, which can boost demand for New Zealand's exports, particularly dairy products, timber, and meat.
The NZD/USD pair climbed to around 0.5950 during Asian trading hours, up from Friday's close near 0.5930. While the reading remains below the 50 threshold that separates expansion from contraction, it provides some support for risk-sensitive currencies like the NZD.
