New Zealand RBNZ Hikes Rates Again to Combat Inflation Headwinds
New Zealand's central bank raised its key interest rate for a second straight meeting to combat rising inflation, a potential challenge for the government ahead of an upcoming election.
The Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) lifted the Official Cash Rate by a quarter percentage point to 2.75% on September 2, 2026.
The decision comes as policymakers aim to rein in elevated inflation, with the RBNZ's new forecasts indicating a chance of one further hike by year's end.
