New Zealand's dairy industry continues to punch above its weight globally, according to the latest Rabobank 2026 World Dairy Map. The report confirms that New Zealand accounted for 22.1% of world dairy exports in 2025, retaining its title as the world's largest single-country dairy exporter.

The European Union (EU) bloc remains the world's largest dairy exporter overall, but its share is slowly eroding. Meanwhile, the US is growing its dairy exports across recent years.

New Zealand's consistent contribution to global dairy exports has been remarkable, with a steady output of between 21 billion kgMS and 23 billion kgMS over the last eight years. Since 2023, the country's contribution has held constant at 22 billion kgMS.

Fonterra's milk price directly injects over $13-$14 billion into New Zealand's economy annually, benefiting rural communities and the wider economy. The report challenges past claims that dairy is a 'sunset industry', highlighting its continued relevance and competitiveness globally.
