New Zealand Tourism Campaign Taps Friends and Family Network
Tourism New Zealand has launched a new campaign to encourage people living overseas to visit their friends and family in New Zealand. The 'Don't be a Stranger' initiative targets visitors from Australia, the United Kingdom, and Canada, with a goal of boosting arrivals by over 5,000 by the end of the year.
The campaign aims to contribute an estimated $16.4 million to the economy and is part of the government's push to grow international arrivals to 3.9 million over the same period. People visiting friends and family account for about 30% of all international arrivals, contributing a significant $2.6 billion to the economy each year.
Tourism New Zealand's marketing general manager Brodie McLeish said the campaign is designed to encourage people to stop putting off a visit and book a trip. 'Don't be a Stranger' encourages visitors and their hosts to see more and do more while in New Zealand, inspiring them to support tourism businesses across the country.
McLeish noted that international visitor arrivals are on track to hit 3.9 million by the end of the year, with 3.7 million arrivals already recorded as of June. This is a significant increase from last year, with arrivals up 20% and holiday arrivals up 15%
