New Zealand's Grid Upgrades Face Pressure from Rising Energy Demand
New Zealand's electricity distributors are facing increased pressure to upgrade their grids as demand for energy rises.
According to a roundtable discussion hosted by TechnologyOne, distributors are investing heavily in network expansion and asset management due to the country's shift towards electrification and lower-emissions economy.
Dave Robertson, Chief Digital Officer at Unison, noted that 'communities expect reliable service, regulators expect greater transparency, and the pressure to plan for future energy needs keeps rising.'
The roundtable focused on recurring issues such as asset data, workforce skills, and investment planning, highlighting the operational challenge of meeting higher demand without increasing costs for consumers.
