NFP Report: Labor Market Resilience Under Scrutiny
The upcoming US July Nonfarm Payrolls (NFP) report will be a crucial indicator of the labor market's resilience and its impact on the Federal Reserve's policy path.
The NFP release is expected to show an increase in nonfarm job growth, with markets predicting around 91,000 new jobs added in July, up from June's 57,000. However, this number alone may not be sufficient to signal a strong labor market, as the key components of the report will provide a more comprehensive picture.
The unemployment rate is forecasted to rise from 4.2% to 4.3%, and average hourly earnings growth is expected to moderate. The labor-force participation rate will also be watched closely, as well as revisions to previous data.
Markets are already looking beyond the headline number, paying attention to other economic indicators such as JOLTS job openings, ADP employment, and ISM manufacturing and services PMIs. These releases will provide valuable insights into corporate hiring demand, labor market tightness, and inflation expectations.
