NH Economy Hit by Tariffs in Trump-Canada Trade War
New Hampshire's economy and businesses are suffering due to President Trump's trade war with Canada.
The state's largest trading partner, Canada, imposes tariffs on goods coming in from New Hampshire, raising prices for essential products like natural gas and gasoline. Meanwhile, New Hampshire exports worth between $800 million to $1.4 billion annually to Canada are affected by retaliatory tariffs that will increase costs for goods shipped north.
The tourism industry has also taken a hit, with Canadian visitors declining due to Trump's trade policies and rhetoric. The result is nearly a 30% decline in Canadian tourism, costing the New Hampshire economy millions of dollars.
Governor Ayotte remains silent on the issue, failing to convince President Trump that his trade policies will severely harm the state. According to the right-wing Editorial Board of the Wall Street Journal, Trump's tariff war on Canada is 'the dumbest trade war in history' and makes no economic or political sense.
