Nigeria's Resilient Reserve Boosts Naira Value Amid Global Economic Uncertainty
The Nigerian Naira has strengthened against major currencies in recent days, according to data released by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). As of August 28, the Naira closed at N1,337.29 per dollar in the Nigerian Autonomous Foreign Exchange Market (NAFEM), a gain of N1.30 or 0.09 percent from the previous day's rate.
The domestic currency also appreciated against the Pound Sterling and Euro, closing at N1,816.04 per pound and N1,556.87 per euro respectively. In contrast to Thursday's rates, these represent gains of N4.30 and N3.25 respectively.
The increase in the value of the Naira is attributed to a stronger reserve position, which has surpassed $53 billion due to sustained accretion from multiple sources, including hydrocarbon sales and remittances.
