Niseko Winter Tourists Drop Average of $3700
Niseko in Hokkaido's winter season saw international tourists outspending their Japanese counterparts by nearly five times, averaging around $3,700 per person. This is according to a recent tourism trends report compiled by the Niseko Promotion Board.
The average spend of 580,000 yen ($3,700) for an individual foreign traveler is significantly higher than the average spend of Japanese visitors at approximately 125,000 yen each. The total number of international guests staying overnight in the area during the winter season reached 973,798, a year-over-year increase of 32.9 percent.
Australia topped the list for foreign tourists to Niseko with 15.3 percent share, followed closely by the United States with a year-on-year increase of 12.3 percent. The US overtook Australia as the largest demographic among international visitors in the area throughout the year.
