Newfoundland and Labrador is set to lead Canada's economic growth this year, according to a recent report by Signal49 Research. The province will experience its second consecutive year of strong growth, driven by higher oil prices. Its GDP is expected to grow by 3.7 per cent in 2026.

The economy in most other provinces is forecasted to expand by about 1.5 per cent, but Ontario and Quebec will lag behind with growth of less than one percent. This slower growth is attributed to the negative impact of tariffs on these provinces.

While Newfoundland and Labrador's economy shows promise, lead researcher Richard Forbes notes that there are headwinds to consider, including a relatively older population and weak migration trends.
