North American Markets Slide Amid Global Economic Uncertainty

The North American stock markets closed in negative territory on Monday, with the S&P 500 and NASDAQ leading the decline. The S&P 500 fell by 1.21%, while the NASDAQ dropped 2.15%. The DOW lost 0.97% and the TSX shed 0.82%. In contrast, oil prices declined by 1.79%, and the value of the US dollar against the Japanese yen increased by 11.38%.

The TSX also saw some gains from individual stocks, with WCP rising by 1.64%, BTE up 2.31%, CVE increasing by 2.47%, and CNQ gaining 2.72%. The price of gold was relatively stable, increasing by only 0.05%.

The changes in the market data were reflected in various currency exchange rates, with the CAD/USD rate at 1 USD = 1.40744 CAD, and the USDJPY rate showing a significant increase due to the rise in the US dollar against the Japanese yen.
