Nova Scotia Braces for Tariff Impact as Canada Hits Back at US
Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston says retaliatory tariffs on $27.6 billion worth of U.S. goods will have 'very real' impacts on Nova Scotians.
The Canadian government has announced it will impose dollar-for-dollar retaliatory tariffs in response to the United States imposing a 50% tariff on an equal value of Canadian goods.
Houston acknowledged that the move will be a hit to the province's economy, but remains optimistic that the two sides can return to the negotiating table to reach a fair deal.
The premier noted that his government has already allocated money in last year's budget to support businesses affected by the trade disruption and will do what it can to help people through this difficult time.
