New Zealand's tourism industry is getting a boost from artificial intelligence as the country invests NZ$800,000 to improve its online presence.

Tourism and Hospitality Minister Louise Upston said that with more people using AI tools for research and planning holidays, it's essential for New Zealand to be easily found in search results. The funding will upgrade Tourism New Zealand's digital systems, making tourism products, accommodation providers, and visitor experiences more visible on AI platforms.

The improved database structure will allow AI search tools to identify and display relevant businesses effectively when users ask for personalized travel recommendations. Officials expect stronger online visibility to create new opportunities for tourism businesses while supporting employment and economic activity generated by the visitor economy.
