NZ Defence Force Must Adapt to Changing Global Landscape
A recent webinar, hosted by The New Zealand Initiative, explored the case for a stronger New Zealand Defence Force. Major General (Ret) John Howard, a Senior Fellow at the organization and former Chief of Defence Intelligence, argued that a credible, combat-capable defence force is essential to protecting New Zealand's interests.
Howard drew on his 40 years of military service to discuss how military capability supports the country's economy and standing in the world. He emphasized that a country of New Zealand's size should be able to do more than just rely on its partners, and what those partners can expect from it in return.
The webinar covered New Zealand's plans to rebuild its defence capabilities, as well as lessons that can be learned from other small nations facing similar questions. A live Q&A session followed the presentation, allowing attendees to put their questions directly to Howard.
