The New Zealand government has announced an investment of $835,000 to improve visitor experiences in Kaikōura. The funding is provided by the International Visitor Levy, a measure aimed at supporting tourism growth and offsetting pressures on local communities.

Tourism and Hospitality Minister Louise Upston stated that Kaikōura is 'one of New Zealand's most distinctive visitor destinations', attracting people worldwide for its wildlife, natural beauty, and outdoor experiences. The investment will enhance public spaces used by both visitors and locals, creating a more welcoming gateway into the township.

The government aims to support future tourism growth through this investment, which includes improving cruise facilities and arrival experiences for passengers. Upston emphasized that 'cruise visitors are an important part of Kaikōura's tourism economy', and improvements will make the destination more attractive to cruise operators and passengers.
