NZ Inflation Hits Two-Year High as Fuel Prices Skyrocket
New Zealand's inflation rate has hit its highest level in two years, reaching 4.1% in the June quarter.
The surge is largely due to fuel prices, which rose by 20% for petrol and a whopping 50% for diesel over the quarter.
This significant increase contributed more than 30% to the annual inflation rate, pushing it above the Reserve Bank's target band of 1-3%.
Despite the headline figure, both ASB and Kiwibank economists argue that the underlying picture is more nuanced than the numbers suggest.
