New Zealand's economy is often overshadowed by pessimistic commentary, but there are signs that it's on the right track. Auckland Mayor Wayne Brown recently launched his '100 Days of Startups' campaign to highlight the entrepreneurs and companies driving growth in one of New Zealand's fastest-growing export sectors: startups.

The campaign aims to produce three things: a comprehensive startup ecosystem map, an online platform for startups to connect with investors and partners, and a guide to help new businesses navigate the city's regulatory environment. The goal is to create a supportive environment that fosters innovation and entrepreneurship.

While some may be skeptical about the potential of these efforts, Brown's campaign has already gained attention from key stakeholders in the startup ecosystem. As Phil Thomson, co-founder and CEO of Auror, notes, 'it seems fashionable to be pessimistic about New Zealand’s economy', but he believes it's time to focus on the country's economic overachievers.
