NZ Shifts Focus to Business AI Adoption Amid Growing Demand
New Zealand's AI strategy is shifting focus from developing massive models to helping businesses adopt and improve productivity. Data shows that larger businesses are quickly embracing AI, with 67% using some form of AI in 2024 compared to 48% in 2023.
Smaller businesses, however, are adopting at a slower pace, but awareness is widespread with 94% of SMEs knowing about at least one AI tool. Indian professionals working in various sectors can benefit from learning how to work with AI, using tools to improve productivity and automating repetitive tasks.
The key skills for professionals include understanding basic data and AI concepts, checking and fact-checking AI-generated information, and combining AI skills with industry expertise. With the potential for generative AI to contribute NZ$76 billion to the New Zealand economy by 2038, there is a growing demand for professionals who understand how to apply AI responsibly.
Indian professionals already possess international qualifications and technical expertise, but adding AI literacy can provide an additional advantage in New Zealand's changing job market. Becoming 'AI-ready' means staying curious about the technology's limitations and continuously updating skills.
