NZD Edges Higher Ahead of US Inflation Data
The New Zealand dollar has strengthened to near 0.5850 against the US dollar ahead of the upcoming US PPI inflation data release.
Economists expect a hot CPI print to confirm a September interest rate hike and support a firmer dollar, while a cooler reading would strengthen the case for a hold and leave the dollar vulnerable to a dovish Fed repricing.
The Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) has maintained its cautious tone, stating that the current interest rate remains accommodative and that the bank is focused on gradually removing monetary stimulus.
Economist Sharon Zollner at ANZ believes that there may not be a significant shift in the RBNZ's OCR forecasts due to uncertainties surrounding inflation and economic recovery.
