NZD Gains Amid Slightly Improved Chinese PMI
The New Zealand Dollar (NZD) gained some strength on Monday as China's Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) data showed a slight improvement in August. The NBS PMI ticked up to 49.8, beating expectations of 49.7 and marking an increase from July's 49.2.
China's manufacturing sector is closely tied to New Zealand's economy due to their close trade relationship, so any changes in the Chinese economy typically have a significant impact on the NZD.
The ANZ Business Confidence Index fell to 53.7 in August from 56.1 in July, while the Activity Outlook dropped to 48.2 from 49.3, indicating weakening economic sentiment in New Zealand.
Traders remain cautious ahead of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand's (RBNZ) upcoming monetary policy decision, where markets expect a 25-basis-point interest rate hike following a similar increase in May.
