NZD Plunges as Trump's Iran Comments Fuel Global Tensions
The New Zealand Dollar (NZD) is falling in value due to investors seeking safety amid mounting geopolitical tensions between the United States and Iran.
US President Donald Trump's comments on not renewing the expiring agreement with Iran and his intention to place the Strait of Hormuz under US control have heightened concerns about a further escalation in tensions between Washington and Tehran.
The NZD is generally sensitive to changes in risk appetite, which explains its decline. However, some analysts believe that the US Dollar's advance may be limited by fading expectations of monetary tightening from the Federal Reserve (Fed).
The CME FedWatch tool shows that markets now price in a 35% chance of a rate hike at the Fed's next meeting, down from 47% a month earlier. This decline in expectations could curb demand for the US Dollar and limit downside pressure on NZD/USD.
