NZD Recovers on Thursday as Dollar Weakens

The New Zealand Dollar (NZD) saw a moderate recovery on Thursday, regaining some of its losses from Wednesday's decision-day slide. The currency traded just under 0.5900, up roughly half a percent, after a session that retraced most of Wednesday's decline without any major releases from the Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ).

The RBNZ maintained an interest rate of 2.75% and kept its next decision date as October 28. The central bank's statement on Wednesday framed a quarter-point hike now as insurance against a larger move later, which suggests it wants to keep rates near 3%. However, four members of the committee see upside risks to inflation, indicating that the path ahead is not predetermined.

The NZD/USD pair rose from an Asian low above 0.5800 to a high just short of 0.5900, reclaiming both the 200-day and 50-day Exponential Moving Average (EMA) along the way. The recovery was largely driven by the Dollar's weakness, particularly in London, where it was sold throughout the day.

Looking ahead, Friday's nonfarm payrolls report is expected to be a key market driver, with a consensus of 56K jobs added in August. A soft print could reinforce expectations for a September rate hold, while a strong number would restore the possibility of a hike and potentially give back Thursday's gains.
