NZD Slides as Geopolitical Tensions Fuel Safe-Haven Demand
The New Zealand Dollar (NZD) fell against the US Dollar (USD) on Thursday as investors sought safe-haven assets amid escalating geopolitical uncertainty. The NZD/USD pair reached a fresh multi-week low, reflecting a broad shift in market sentiment away from risk-sensitive currencies.
The US Dollar Index (DXY) climbed to its highest level in several weeks, driven by persistent global tensions and a cautious tone in equity markets. This surge in safe-haven demand put pressure on commodity-linked currencies like the NZD.
From a technical perspective, the NZD/USD pair broke below a key support level near 0.6050, accelerating selling pressure. The pair is now testing the next support zone around 0.6000, a psychologically important level. A sustained break below this threshold could open the door for further losses toward the 0.5950 area.
