NZD Strengthens Ahead of US PPI Data Release
The New Zealand Dollar (NZD) has strengthened to near 0.5850 against the US Dollar (USD), buoyed by a softer USD. This move comes ahead of Thursday's release of US Producer Price Index (PPI) data, which is expected to show a 5.3% year-over-year increase in August.
According to economists, a stronger-than-expected PPI reading could reinforce the Federal Reserve's decision to raise interest rates and lift the USD. However, a cooler reading would strengthen the case for a hold and leave the dollar vulnerable to a dovish Fed repricing.
Economist Elias Haddad at Brown Brothers Harriman & Co. noted that 'a hot CPI print would all but seal a September hike and underpin a firmer dollar.'
