NZD Surges Past 0.5900 Against USD Amid Weakness
The New Zealand Dollar (NZD) has surged past 0.5900 against the US Dollar (USD), reaching its highest level since June 3, as the USD continues to weaken.
This gain comes amid a prevailing USD selling bias, fueled by soft US inflation and weak consumer spending data released last week.
The US Consumer Price Index (CPI) and Producer Price Index (PPI) pointed to signs of cooling inflation, while US Retail Sales fell 0.6% in July, marking the biggest monthly drop since May last year.
On the other hand, the Reserve Bank of New Zealand's (RBNZ) hawkish tilt continues to support the NZD, with strategists at Brown Brothers Harriman arguing that market pricing already reflects a bias for additional RBNZ rate hikes.
