NZD Surges Past Six-Month High on Fed Rate Cut Bets
The New Zealand dollar has reached its highest level against the US dollar since June, fueled by expectations of a Federal Reserve interest rate cut and a softer US dollar.
The NZD/USD pair traded above $0.62 for the first time in months, driven by a weakening greenback and improving risk sentiment.
Economic data, including lower inflation and a cooling labor market, has reinforced bets that the Fed will cut interest rates as early as March, with CME Group's FedWatch tool pricing in nearly 70% chance of a quarter-point rate cut.
The Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) has signaled it may keep its official cash rate higher for longer than expected, and stronger-than-expected dairy export prices have also provided support to the NZD.
