NZD Surges to Fresh High as Fed Hike Bets Recede
The New Zealand Dollar (NZD) has extended its gains to reach a fresh high since early June, climbing above mid-0.5900s against the US Dollar (USD). This is the third consecutive day of positive momentum for the NZD/USD pair, driven by a combination of supporting factors.
The USD is struggling to capitalize on its previous day's bounce from a three-month low, weighed down by receding bets for an immediate interest rate hike by the US Federal Reserve (Fed). In contrast, expectations of another interest rate hike by the Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) are lending support to the NZD.
The geopolitical risk premium is also contributing to the safe-haven USD's limited losses. President Donald Trump has threatened severe penalties on any nation that helps Iran evade sanctions or does business with Iran, sparking caution for USD bears.
Technical analysis suggests that the NZD/USD pair is extending its gains above the 200-period Exponential Moving Average (EMA) at 0.5851, underpinning a bullish near-term bias.
