NZD Tumbles as RBNZ Raises Interest Rates Again
The New Zealand dollar took a hit on Wednesday, plummeting to $0.585, its lowest level in almost three weeks. This decline occurred despite the Reserve Bank of New Zealand's (RBNZ) decision to raise interest rates for the second consecutive meeting.
The RBNZ increased the Overnight Cash Rate (OCR) by 25 basis points to 2.75%, aligning with market expectations and part of its ongoing efforts to combat inflationary pressures. Policymakers remain committed to returning inflation to its target range of 1%-3%.
The bank's latest projections suggest there could be one more quarter-point rate increase before the end of the year, underscoring its determination to curb inflation.
