NZD Under Pressure from Strong USD Amid Geopolitical Tensions
The New Zealand Dollar is under pressure from the firm US Dollar, which continues to benefit from safe-haven demand amid ongoing geopolitical tensions. The NZD/USD pair trades around 0.5770 on Tuesday, slightly lower on the day.
Markets remain focused on developments in the Middle East, where the US has paused its military campaign against Iran after nearly two weeks of strikes. US President Donald Trump said that talks with Tehran were progressing and that a diplomatic resolution remained possible, but optimism was frayed after reports of drone attacks in Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Iraq.
Trump warned that US strikes could resume if negotiations fail, helping the US Dollar retain its safe-haven appeal. Despite this, investors are reluctant to place aggressive bets ahead of the two-day Federal Reserve policy meeting, which begins later on Tuesday.
