NZD/USD Falls as RBNZ Hawks Face Challenges from Softening Inflation Expectations
The New Zealand Dollar (NZD) is facing pressure as softer inflation expectations challenge the Reserve Bank of New Zealand's (RBNZ) hawkish stance.
The NZD/USD pair retreated to around 0.5850 on Thursday, losing 0.15% on the day, after the RBNZ's two-year inflation expectations eased to 2.34% in the third quarter of 2026 from 2.53% previously.
This decline has tempered expectations of another 25-basis-point interest rate hike at the RBNZ's September meeting, which could have supported the Kiwi.
The US Dollar (USD) is also under pressure following softer-than-expected US producer inflation data, with the PPI slowing sharply to 4.7% YoY from 5.5% previously, below the 4.9% market consensus.
