NZD/USD Slides Amid Iran Tensions and Domestic Uncertainty
The New Zealand Dollar (NZD) declined by 0.25% against the US Dollar (USD), trading at around 0.5865 as of Wednesday.
This drop comes amidst geopolitical tensions, with reports indicating no discussions are currently underway regarding an extension of the ceasefire between Washington and Tehran. Iran considers there is no official start date for the ceasefire, and therefore nothing to extend.
The absence of a major surprise in July's US inflation data also failed to spark significant market reaction. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) eased to 3.4% YoY from 3.5% in June, with core inflation increasing by 0.2% MoM and 2.5% YoY.
New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon's survival of a second leadership challenge in four months adds another source of uncertainty for the Kiwi, further weighing on its value.
