NZD Weakens Ahead of China PMI Data Amid Hawkish RBNZ Tone
The New Zealand Dollar (NZD) has weakened against the US Dollar (USD), trading around 0.5870 during Asian hours on Friday, after three days of gains.
Traders are cautious ahead of China's Purchasing Managers Index (PMI) data release later in the day, which could impact NZD/USD pair dynamics.
The Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) has maintained a hawkish tone, with Governor Adrian Orr emphasizing that 'only one target and it is 2%' inflation rate. The RBNZ's commitment to restrictive policy for longer reinforces a strong USD bias.
Strategists at Brown Brothers Harriman note that NZD has continued to firm against major currencies despite New Zealand bonds underperforming peers. They highlight the country's improving domestic momentum and real GDP growth.
