NZX 50 Bounces Back from Low, But Eyes Weekly Decline
New Zealand's stock market saw a modest gain on Thursday, as the NZX 50 index rose by 24 points to 13,735. This increase marks a slight rebound from its lowest level since July 31.
The rise was driven primarily by consumer discretionary, healthcare, and real estate sectors, which showed notable gains. Companies such as Hallenstein Glasson (up 1.6%), Ebos Group (up 1.1%), Chorus (up 0.7%), F&C Investment (up 0.6%), and ANZ Group (up 0.2%) contributed to the uptick.
However, market participants remained cautious ahead of key economic releases. The US inflation data, due later today, is expected to provide clues on the Federal Reserve's monetary policy decision next week. Additionally, New Zealand's GDP for Q2 and a series of economic indicators from China will be released soon, which may impact investor sentiment.
The Wall Street session overnight was marked by a decline amid rising Treasury yields and oil prices. This may have capped the potential for further gains in the NZX 50 index.
