NZX 50 Dips 0.2% Amid Rate Hike Fears and Rising Oil Prices
New Zealand's stock market took a slight hit on Monday, ending the day down 0.2% from the previous session.
The NZX 50 index shed 31 points to close at 13,942, following a decline on Wall Street on Friday amid expectations that the Fed would raise interest rates after stronger-than-expected labor data.
Traders were cautious ahead of China's upcoming economic indicators, including CPI and PPI data, as well as trade figures for August. Rising oil prices also put downward pressure on sentiment due to concerns over inflation and increased bets that central banks will raise interest rates.
The labour market appears to be a key factor in the market's current state, with stronger-than-expected job numbers leading to speculation about future rate hikes.
