New Zealand's S&P/NZX 50 index declined on its first day of September, mirroring softer markets across Asia.

The NZX 50 fell by 130.4 points or 0.9% to 13,786.9 with 32 stocks decreasing and 18 gaining in value.

Auckland International Airport dropped 3.2% to $8.57 after heavy volumes were driven by the August MSCI index rebalancing.

The Reserve Bank is set to raise the official cash rate at its upcoming policy review, with domestic inflation remaining a concern.
