NZX 50 Reclaims Lost Ground Amid Moody's Optimism
New Zealand's stock market saw an uptick in Wednesday morning trade, recovering from losses incurred over the previous two sessions. The NZX 50 index rose by 17 points, or 0.1%, to reach 13,810.
The gains were largely driven by sectors such as communication services, utilities, technology, and real estate, which posted notable increases. Gentract Group led the pack with a 2.1% gain, followed closely by Sanford at 1.8% and Mercury NZ at 1.4%
A report from Moody's ratings agency also contributed to the positive sentiment, stating that New Zealand's economic recovery is underway, albeit with unresolved issues remaining.
However, caution prevailed as investors remained uncertain about inflationary pressures due to rising oil prices amid the escalating conflict in the Middle East. This, combined with concerns over interest rate hikes and China's upcoming consumer and producer price data release, tempered the market's gains.
