Oil Price Rebound Weakens Indian Rupee
The Indian Rupee erased most of its gains from Tuesday as oil prices rebounded following the lack of a US-Iran deal.
Oil prices had sold off on Tuesday after positive developments on the US-Iran side raised hopes for a potential peace deal or return to MoU conditions, leading to a rally in the INR. However, yesterday's bank holiday meant no trading took place, and today's opening saw oil prices erase most of Tuesday's losses.
This has weakened the Indian Rupee due to India's heavy reliance on imported oil, increasing demand for US dollars and putting pressure on the country's external balances.
In the short-term, the INR will continue to be driven by oil prices, potentially leading to a range-bound market until the US and Iran find an agreement. In the bigger picture, the Indian Rupee remains on a bearish trend against the US dollar, making it an attractive target for dip-buyers.
