Oil Price Slump Weighs on Loonie Amid US Tariff Tensions
The Canadian Dollar (CAD) took a hit on Tuesday as oil prices plummeted and new US tariff tensions flared up. The USD/CAD exchange rate hovered around 1.3835, down 0.07% from the previous day.
The decline in oil prices weighed heavily on the Loonie, with West Texas Intermediate (WTI) falling 3.35% to $81.75 per barrel. This is a negative factor for Canada, as it's a major crude exporter.
However, the US Dollar also weakened due to improving market sentiment and mixed economic data. The US Dollar Index (DXY) fell 0.05% to 98.95.
