Oil Prices Soar as US-Iran Negotiations Stall
Oil prices surged to their highest levels since July 31 on Tuesday as negotiations between the US and Iran over a peace deal and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz stalled. Brent crude futures rose to $88.00 per barrel, while U.S. crude futures ticked up to $82.45.
Tony Sycamore, a market analyst at IG, described the situation as 'a bit of a Mexican standoff' between the two nations. He predicted that oil prices would remain in the range of $75-95 per barrel while negotiations continue.
The renewed tensions have raised concerns about inflation and interest rates. Economists are expecting a hotter-than-expected US consumer price report on Wednesday, which could lead to increased expectations for a Federal Reserve rate hike.
