Oil Rally Fuels German Bond Yield Surge
German government bond yields are holding near one-week highs as oil prices extend their rally for a sixth consecutive session. The sustained surge in energy costs has reignited fears that inflation may remain stickier than anticipated, prompting a sell-off in fixed-income markets across Europe.
The 10-year German Bund yield is at 2.45%, just shy of the one-week high reached the previous session. Yields move inversely to prices, and the recent uptick reflects investor expectations that central banks may need to keep interest rates higher for longer.
Investors are now turning their attention to the upcoming U.S. consumer price index (CPI) report, due out on Wednesday. A hotter-than-expected reading could reinforce the Fed's cautious stance and potentially delay rate cuts, while a softer print might revive hopes for monetary easing.
