Oil Surge Drives Global Inflation as Energy Costs Soar
The global economy is experiencing intensified inflation pressures due to surging energy costs from the Iran war. The US saw hotter-than-expected consumer inflation and the largest monthly increase in producer prices since May, bolstering the case for a Federal Reserve rate hike next week.
In China, energy shock helped revive inflation, while in Taiwan, consumer price index rose above its central bank's alert level. In Europe, Britain's GDP beat forecasts, but German industrial production declined by 1.1% in July.
The US producer price index rose 0.4% in August from the prior month and 5.4% from a year earlier, with energy and transportation costs surging.
