O'Leary Sees Tariff Chaos as Buying Opportunity for Canadian Assets
Kevin O'Leary, the Shark Tank investor, is urging Canadians to invest in the country's assets despite the ongoing trade war between Canada and the US. In a recent post on X, he stated that both countries are facing economically precarious situations, making it an ideal time to invest rather than retreat.
O'Leary used a hockey analogy to explain his stance, saying, 'I don't want to invest where the puck is, I want to invest where the puck is going.' He also noted that Prime Minister Mark Carney cannot sustain 50% tariffs on Canada's economy without putting it into recession.
The US imposed 50% tariffs on $28 billion of Canadian exports on August 22, and Canada will respond with up to 50% duties on over 700 US products from steel and dairy to smartphones and furniture on September 8. O'Leary believes this is a 'politically motivated period of time' where investors can buy in at the bottom and see a 'ridiculously fantastic return' over the next five years.
