Oregon's Job Market Shrinks by 4,100 Positions in July
Oregon's nonfarm payroll employment declined by 4,100 jobs in July, according to the Oregon Employment Department. This comes after a revised gain of 1,300 jobs in June.
The losses were mainly concentrated in professional and business services (-1,800 jobs), leisure and hospitality (-900 jobs), and government (-700 jobs). In contrast, retail trade added 500 jobs in July, but this follows a long-term trend of job declines since 2022.
Oregon's unemployment rate has been steady at 5.2% since January, while the U.S. unemployment rate was 4.1% in July.
