Amancio Ortega's investment firm Pontegadea has made its entry into Australia through the acquisition of logistics holding Qube, in a deal valued at AU$11.7 billion (€7.17 billion). The consortium led by Macquarie, which includes Pontegadea and Unisuper, completed the purchase after offering 5.20 Australian dollars (3.10 euros) per share, representing a premium of 27.8% over Qube's last closing price.

According to Patricia Alonso, investment director at Pontegadea, this transaction marks another step in the company's global diversification strategy. 'We are very pleased to expand Pontegadea's global investment portfolio to Australia,' she said.

The newly formed consortium will focus on continuing to allocate resources to Qube's infrastructure network and locating new business opportunities in the Asia-Pacific region, as stated by Macquarie. The Australian logistics company operates a diverse range of assets, including terminals, ports, warehouses, rail and road infrastructures across Australia, New Zealand, and Southeast Asia.
