Pakistan Seeks $8 Billion Bailout from IMF Amid Economic Crisis
Pakistan is seeking a bailout package from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to help address its economic crisis. Representatives from Pakistan and the IMF began another round of talks in Islamabad on Tuesday for a three-year bailout package.
The visit follows a meeting between Prime Minister Imran Khan and IMF Chief Christine Lagarde, when the two discussed prospects for a comprehensive policy package and international financial support to help stabilize Pakistan's economy. Khan's government is seeking nearly $8 billion from the IMF to address its financial woes.
Last year, the previous round of talks was held in November but remained inconclusive. This time around, Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, the newly-appointed Adviser to the Prime Minister on Finance, will lead the delegation from the Pakistani side. He is expected to negotiate the terms of a bailout package that could help Pakistan overcome its economic crisis.
