Pence Warns of Economic Damage From US-Canada Trade War
Former US Vice President Mike Pence expressed concerns about the potential damage to the American economy from a trade war with Canada.
The current tensions between the two nations come after trade negotiations stalled, and President Trump's 50% tariffs on approximately $20 billion worth of Canadian goods went into effect on Saturday.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced that Canadian goods exported to the US will face commensurate 50% tariffs starting September 8.
Pence, who was present during negotiations for the US-Mexico-Canada trade agreement, called for a return to free trade talks and expressed hope that 'hot rhetoric' would give way to substantive discussions.
