Peptide Boom Fueled by Longevity Economy Raises Safety Concerns

The 'longevity economy' has fueled a boom in peptide sales online, but many of these products are unregulated and lack scientific evidence.

Health Canada recently won a court order to stop a Quebec company from selling unauthorized injectable peptides in the country. The peptides being sold are often marketed for muscle growth, weight loss, and anti-aging, but some have little or no human evidence behind them.

'There's been a continual evolution of, 'How do we optimize our bodies? How do we live longer? How do we recover faster? How do we build more muscle?'

said Kyle Ganson, a professor of social work at the University of Toronto. He co-authored a recent paper on the rise of injectable peptides and notes that many consumers are unaware of the risks associated with these products.
