A new report from Deloitte Canada reveals that the innovative pharmaceutical industry is a major economic driver for Canada, contributing $25 billion to the economy and supporting nearly 150,000 high-value jobs.

The report, commissioned by Innovative Medicines Canada (IMC), also found that the industry invests $3.5 billion in research and development (R&D) each year, making it one of Canada's top R&D investors.

Innovative medicines generate a significant return on investment, with every dollar invested generating nearly three dollars in economic value through quality jobs, labour income, and government revenue.

IMC President & CEO Dr. Bettina Hamelin emphasized the importance of recognizing the industry's contributions to Canada's economy, stating: 'This data confirms what we have long known: that the innovative pharmaceutical industry is not just about better health outcomes; it is a foundational part of Canada's economy.'
