Pilgrim's Europe Workers to Strike Over Pay Terms

Workers at a food factory in Co Fermanagh will go on strike for four days next month over pay terms. The union representing the employees, Unite, claims that staff at the Enniskillen site are seeking 'pay justice'. This includes a request for paid breaks and parity in working conditions.

The site, part of Pilgrim's Europe, employs around 300 people. In a statement, Pilgrim's said it had made an 'above inflation pay offer', but Unite disputes this claim. The union argues that the company can afford to pay its employees a decent wage and notes that last year, Pilgrim's Europe posted an operating profit of £98.1m.

Unite general secretary Sharon Graham has given her full support to the striking workers. She said that the company needs to return to the table with an acceptable pay offer and end the unequal practice of not paying day shift workers for breaks.
